Russian ship Caesar Kunikov (BDK-64)

Caesar Kunikov (BDK-64) (Russian: «Цезарь Куников» (БДК-64)) is a Russian military ship of big landing craft type (translit. BDK - Bolshoy Desantny Korabl, NATO classification - Ropucha-I ).

Ship launched in 1986. Project no. 775.

She's currently in service at Black Sea Fleet of Russian Navy (197th brigade of landing type ships, 30th division of surface ships). Homeport - Sevastopol. Hull no. 158.

Named after Caesar Lvovich Kunikov, Soviet commanding officer of a landing party, who captured the beach-head of Malaya Zemlya, a Hero of the Soviet Union.

Ship is currently held under the patronage of Zelenograd city.

Combat action

Caesar Kunikov was the flagship of the Russian squadron the participated in the August 2008 Russian-Georgian naval skirmish.
